Florida Statute 742.18 allows a legal father to end paternity and the related child support obligation, but only under narrow conditions: newly discovered evidence that he is not the biological parent, no disqualifying conduct such as adopting the child or knowingly agreeing to support, and a petition filed while the child is still a minor. Because the statute is applied strictly, an incomplete or poorly timed petition is likely to be denied, which is why thorough documentation matters from the start.
