Florida\’s 2023 reform eliminated permanent alimony and capped the amount and duration of the four remaining types: temporary, bridge-the-gap, rehabilitative, and durational. Before any award, a court must find genuine financial need in one spouse and the ability to pay in the other; marriage length then sets how long durational support can last, with a hard cap of 35% of the income difference. A long marriage no longer guarantees lifetime support, and most awards stay modifiable if circumstances change.
